Nissan shows off two more collision avoidance prototypes

Two new technologies, Side Collision Prevention and Back-up Collision Prevention, fit into the auto maker’s Safety Shield concept to “help protect the vehicle and its occupants from potential risks coming from multiple directions.”

Mitsubishi to Test 100 Mile Range MiEV Electric Vehicle in the U.S.

Silly California, I want one of these things for the commute to work.

According to Tohru Hashimoto, Corporate General Manager of the i MiEV Business Promotion Office of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, “The small,four-passenger Mitsubishi i MiEVs will enter into SCE’s nationally-recognized prototype testing and evaluation program. This collaboration with one of the nation’s leading utility supporters of electric vehicles will provide us technical feedback on i MiEV vehicle and battery performance, as well as vehicle connection and integration into the electrical system.”

Finding Evidence in Fingerprints

A new technique reveals drugs and explosives on the scene.

A new method for examining fingerprints provides detailed maps of their chemical composition while creating traditional images of their structural features. Instead of taking samples back to the lab, law-enforcement agents could use the technique, a variation on mass spectrometry, to reveal traces of cocaine, other drugs, and explosives on the scene.
